Air Force fighter jets were scrambled on Saturday to intercept a plane that entered restricted airspace near President Joe Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware, the U.S. Secret Service has confirmed.
The Secret Service said in a statement that “a civilian aircraft violated restricted airspace north of Wilmington” shortly after 2 p.m. on February 4th. “As a precaution, assets were scrambled to intercept and the civilian aircraft safely landed at a nearby airport,” the statement read.
President Biden was at his Wilmington home at the time, according to Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi. He said the incident did not impact Biden’s movements. The Secret Service is investigating along with the Federal Aviation Administration.
The security breach occurred a month after an armed protester demonstrated near Biden’s Wilmington residence. The man’s signs referred to pseudonyms Biden allegedly used in emails as vice president, which House Republicans claim link him to his son Hunter’s Ukraine business dealings.
Days later, records revealed Hunter Biden’s Chinese business partners wired $250,000 to Joe Biden’s Wilmington address in 2019 when Hunter used it as his own. The payments came from a Beijing equity firm and a Chinese national Hunter allegedly threatened over WhatsApp.
House Oversight Committee chair James Comer obtained the records and said they prove Biden lied about his family never receiving money from China. Comer vowed further investigation into potential corruption.
The White House has not yet commented on either the airspace violation or the wire transfers. Biden attended church in Wilmington undeterred on the evening of the fighter jet incident.
