A new report reveals that Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s former top infectious disease expert, and his wife, Christine Grady, accumulated more than $11 million in assets by the time he retired last year.
Fauci and Grady’s net worth grew to $11.5 million, the bulk of which was attributed to Fauci’s earnings and investments, according to financial disclosures obtained by Fox News.
The couple’s wealth expanded through “mutual fund investments, awards, federal compensation increases, and royalties,” Fox News reported, even though Fauci has said in the past that he donates all of his royalties to charity.
Fauci and Grady did see their net worth drop by $1.1 million in 2022.
In his roles as chief medical advisor to President Biden and member of the Trump administration’s Coronavirus Task Force, Dr. Fauci made a higher salary than both presidents, becoming the top-paid federal employee during the pandemic. When he retired from public service at the end of 2022, he earned approximately $481,000 annually.
An earlier review by the watchdog group OpenTheBooks.com found Fauci and his wife’s net worth grew by $5 million between January 2019 and December 2021. Their assets included “trust, retirement, and college education accounts in addition to salary hikes, royalties, and cash awards.”
In 2021, Fauci, while still a government employee, received $1 million from the Dan David Foundation for “speaking truth to power” and “defending science” under Trump. He kept $910,400 of that award and donated 10% to scholarships.
Despite the fact he spent virtually his entire career as a civil servant, Fauci and his wife “managed to become deca-millionaires,” said OpenTheBooks CEO Adam Andrzejewski. “It came through a mix of decades-long tenure and special assignments that added to Fauci’s salary, as well as awards, payments, and perks from private entities.”
On top of the $11.5 million, Fauci receives a taxpayer-funded federal pension in excess of $400,000 a year.
Fauci recently joined the faculty at Georgetown University for what is thought to be a highly paid post. Fauci called the appointment “a natural extension of my scientific, clinical, and public health career.”
