Ben & Jerry’s Launch ‘Kamala’s Coconut Jubilee’ to Boost Dem Turnout

By Jake Beardslee · September 12, 2024

Ben & Jerry's founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield are launching a new ice cream flavor to support Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democratic candidates in the upcoming November election.

The flavor, "Kamala's Coconut Jubilee," is part of a voter mobilization initiative called "Scoop the Vote."  MoveOn Political Action

In collaboration with MoveOn Political Action, a progressive organization, Cohen and Greenfield will embark on an ice cream truck tour starting September 16 in Philadelphia.

The tour will visit over 20 cities in key battleground states, including major rallies in Ann Arbor, Madison, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.  MoveOn.org

The campaign aims to distribute free ice cream, offer giveaways, and assist voters in planning their November 5 ballot participation.  cottonbro studio / Pexels

MoveOn's executive director, Rahna Epting, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, "MoveOn's Scoop the Vote Ice Cream Truck Tour will meet voters where they are and help mobilize our communities to defeat Trump once and for all this fall."  MoveOn Political Action

Epting also highlighted the anticipated close race, saying, "Excitement and joy are on our side right now, but we cannot lose sight of how close this election will be."  cottonbro studio / Pexels

She added, "A few thousand votes will decide whether we live under a democracy with Kamala Harris or a dictatorship with Donald Trump."  Owen Ziliak/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

The Harris-inspired "Kamala's Coconut Jubilee" flavor, featuring coconut ice cream with caramel ripple and confetti stars, will be raffled off at each tour stop.

The coconut theme is a nod to a viral meme involving Harris's anecdote about her mother and a coconut tree.  The White House / Wikimedia

Other election-themed flavors will also be available, including "Unburdened by What has Vanilla Bean" and "MoveOn Mobilizer Milk Chocolate."

This initiative continues Ben & Jerry's tradition of creating politically-themed flavors to support various causes and candidates.  Scott McLeod / Wikimedia
