Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson had harsh words for supporters of potential 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis during a live discussion on Monday.
Speaking at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest event, Carlson blasted online backers of the Florida governor as “the nastiest, the stupidest, and the most zero-sum people I’ve ever seen.”
Despite personally liking DeSantis and approving of his governorship, Carlson took aim at his aggressive online followers.
“You really get the sense that Ron DeSantis – who I liked as governor – the people who represent him online are the nastiest, the stupidest, and the most zero-sum people I’ve ever seen in my life, and I don’t think that reflects him, but it’s like, this is kind of small ball,” Carlson stated.
He went on to criticize DeSantis for seemingly changing his stance on Ukraine after pressure from billionaire donor Ken Griffin, who Carlson alleged told the governor to reverse his non-interventionist position. Carlson condemned DeSantis supporters for standing by the pivot.
“I feel like, who are these people and what is their problem? Like what is going on with them?” Carlson remarked.
Discussion host Tim Pool agreed with Carlson’s critique, saying the toxic rhetoric from DeSantis backers “does reflect on Ron because Ron should have fired the people running his campaign a long time ago.”
While praising DeSantis’ gubernatorial record, Pool labeled his campaign “a train wreck.”
During the talk, Carlson also vowed to fight Donald Trump’s 2024 bid if he chose “creature of the oligarchs” Nikki Haley as his running mate. He argued adding Haley would be enough “reason to oppose the ticket.”
