Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, was indicted on Thursday in California on tax evasion charges, alleging he failed to pay nearly $200,000 in taxes in 2019.

The charges were revealed in documents made public from an ongoing investigation led by Special Counsel David Weiss.

Weiss has been utilizing a federal grand jury in Los Angeles to collect evidence that could lead to criminal charges against the younger Biden related to taxes. Hunter Biden had already pleaded not guilty in October to separate federal firearms charges brought by Weiss’ investigation, which has spanned several years.

The new development comes just before an expected vote next week by House Republican leaders on starting an impeachment inquiry into President Biden over potential connections to his son’s business affairs.

Earlier this week, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) publicized bank records appearing to show a company owned by Hunter Biden had made “direct monthly payments to Joe Biden.”

Comer praised the indictment as the result of “two brave IRS whistleblowers, Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler” and accused the Justice Department of initially trying to give Hunter Biden “an unprecedented sweetheart plea deal.”

Comer said “it will be clear President Biden’s DOJ is protecting Hunter Biden and the big guy” if Weiss does not investigate all those involved.

The White House has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing by President Biden or that he had knowledge of his son’s dealings.

Meanwhile, House Republicans warned Hunter Biden they would initiate contempt proceedings if he does not appear at a closed-door deposition on December 13.

Hunter Biden has said he would only agree to public testimony to avoid selective leaks from a private session that could “manipulate, even history, the facts.”
