Marjorie Taylor Greene on Mike Johnson: ‘His Days as Speaker Are Numbered’

By Jake Beardslee · April 28, 2024

In an escalating feud within the Republican party, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has renewed her vow to remove Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) from his position as Speaker of the House.  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America/Office of Speaker Mike Johnson/Wikimedia

The clash centers around support for continued U.S. aid to Ukraine in its war against Russia's invasion.  President Of Ukraine from Україна/Wikimedia

Greene shared a report on Sunday suggesting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had announced "that Ukraine is working on a security agreement with the U.S. that will fix levels of support for the next 10 years."  @DavidSacks/X

This prospect of long-term funding for Ukraine incensed Greene, who claimed "Permanent funding for Ukraine is exactly what they want and Mike Johnson will give it to them."  @RepMTG/X

She accused the Speaker of being beholden to President Biden and Democratic leadership, stating, "Johnson will do whatever Biden/Schumer want in order to keep the Speaker's gavel in his hand, but he has completely sold out the Republican voters who gave us the majority."  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America/Wikimedia

Greene claimed, "Peace is not an option for them because it doesn't fit the government appropriations war business and economic model, which is vile and disgusting. They're plan is keep funding the proxy war with Russia in Ukraine and when that doesn't work, after all the Ukrainian men have been slaughtered, next they will put American troops on the ground."  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America/Wikimedia

Her fiery comments culminated in a direct threat to Johnson's leadership role: "His days as Speaker are numbered."  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America/Wikimedia

Greene had previously issued a similar warning to oust Johnson as Speaker, but temporarily backed off after Donald Trump publicly supported him.  Office of Representative Mike Johnson/Wikimedia

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) echoed Greene's latest broadside by sharing her post on social media.  Gage Skidmore from Peoria, AZ, United States of America/Wikimedia
