Marjorie Taylor Greene: Trump ‘Strongest He’s Ever Been’ As Biden Exits 2024 Race

By Jake Beardslee · July 21, 2024

President Joe Biden announced Sunday his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, sending shockwaves through the political landscape and dramatically reshaping the upcoming election.

The 81-year-old incumbent, who has faced mounting pressure from within his own party due to concerns about his age and electability, released a statement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) detailing his decision to "stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term."

Republican reaction to Biden's announcement was swift, with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene taking to X to voice her support for Trump.  Mark Hoffman-USA TODAY

"President Trump is the strongest he's ever been and you can't stop the TRUMP TRAIN," Greene wrote, framing the 2024 election as a choice between "open borders vs secure border" and "globalism vs nationalism."  @mtgreenee / X

Biden's announcement comes after months of speculation about his political future and growing anxiety among Democrats about his ability to defeat former President Donald Trump in a potential rematch this November. In his statement, Biden highlighted his administration's accomplishments, including economic growth, historic investments in infrastructure, and landmark legislation on climate change and gun safety.  Mike De Sisti/Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President," Biden wrote, expressing gratitude to the American people and his staff. He promised to address the nation later this week with more details about his decision.  Adam Schultz / Wikimedia

The president's withdrawal has created uncertainty within the Democratic Party regarding potential successors. While Vice President Harris now emerges as a frontrunner with Biden's endorsement, she faces challenges including low approval ratings. Other potential candidates being discussed include Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and California Governor Gavin Newsom.  The White House / Wikimedia

The unexpected development raises questions about the Democratic Party's strategy moving forward and how it will impact the general election. Political analysts suggest that a new nominee could potentially energize the Democratic base, but also note the challenges of launching a presidential campaign with less than four months until Election Day.  The White House / Wikimedia

As the nation awaits Biden's address later this week, attention now turns to Vice President Harris and other potential Democratic candidates to see who will step forward to lead the party into the 2024 election. The coming days and weeks are likely to see intense speculation and maneuvering as the Democratic Party seeks to unify behind a new standard-bearer in their quest to retain the White House.  Merrily Cassidy / USA TODAY NETWORK
