The Ornament Announcement

The First Lady revealed the ornament on social media as part of her new “250 collection.” The gold-toned decoration features two American flags—one bearing 50 stars and another with 13 stars arranged in a circle, symbolizing the original colonies—alongside fireworks and a banner reading “Celebrating the.”

Reports confirm that the ornament will retail for $75.00. The announcement follows renewed attention surrounding her absence during former President Donald Trump’s Stormy Daniels trial and speculation about her role in White House affairs.  @MELANIATRUMP / X

Social Media Backlash

Reaction online was swift and cutting. “Unbelievably tacky,” one user wrote on Reddit. “The grifting just never freaking ends.” Another quipped, “It was the griftiest of times, it was the worst of times.”  The White House / Wikimedia

“FLOG” and Other Harsh Words

The criticism spread to X (formerly Twitter), where users mocked both the design and its timing amid economic hardship. “FLOG First Lady of Grift,” one person wrote. Another added, “Steaks, bibles, watches and now this. No I don’t think to adorn my tree with this next to the angel on top.”  The White House / Wikimedia

A Familiar Controversy

This isn’t the first time Melania Trump’s holiday endeavors have sparked debate. During her husband’s first term, her approach to Christmas decor became a frequent target of satire, from minimalist red trees to leaked recordings of her frustration with the role. Her new ornament line, while patriotic in theme, has reignited discussions about image, optics, and the blurred line between politics and personal branding.  Official White House Photo / Wikimedia
