MSNBC Hosts React with Shock to ‘Powerful’ Harris Endorsement: ‘I Did Not See This Coming’

A significant endorsement from the British publication
The Economist
has taken both the host and guest on MSNBC's "
Morning Joe
" by surprise, as the publication has expressed support for Vice President Kamala Harris over former President Donald Trump.
This unexpected move from the traditionally fiscally conservative outlet was discussed Thursday morning by New York Times financial columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin and anchor Mika Brzezinski, who both acknowledged their surprise.

"This is not considered some liberal bastion or anything," Sorkin noted, with Brzezinski adding, "I did not see this coming."

The endorsement was unexpected due to
The Economist
's historical alignment with conservative economic principles like free trade and fiscal prudence.

However, the publication
argued
that Trump supporters were “deluding themselves” regarding the potential risks posed by a second Trump term, particularly in terms of global economic stability and national security.

The endorsement stated, "You cannot imagine [Harris] bringing about a catastrophe," while expressing hope that another Trump administration might avoid disaster but ultimately concluding, "Mr. Trump poses an unacceptable risk to America and the world."

Brzezinski emphasized the significance of The Economist's stance, calling it "powerful."

Sorkin remarked that while the endorsement was surprising, one aspect was not. "This, again, goes back to the math," he explained.
"Currently, no matter how you do the math, it is hard to justify Trump on economic policies."
