Proud Boys bud Rep. Paul Gosar takes aim at ‘quisling’ Gen. Milley
By CM Chaney · September 26, 2023
In brief…
- Ridical-right Rep. Paul Gosar published a newsletter saying Gen. Mark Milley should be "hung" for his poor handing of the January 6 Capitol riots.
- He accused Milley of conspiring with then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi to undermine Trump by delaying the National Guard response.
- Gosar's comments echo Trump's social medial post suggesting Milley's "execution" for his mishandling of Afghanistan and unauthorized communications with the Chinese government.
- Milley will step down Sept. 30 after a long military career.
Radical-right Arizona GOP Rep. Paul Gosar is facing criticism after calling for the hanging of retiring Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley, accusing him of deliberately delaying the security response during the January 6 Capitol riot.
In his newsletter, “This Week with Gosar,” the Arizona representative claimed that Milley, along with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, conspired to “hurt” former President Trump by coordinating to delay the National Guard response on January 6 once the mutinous riot was underway.
Gosar referred to Milley as the “homosexual-promoting-BLM-activist Chairman of the military joint chiefs” and stated that “in a better society, quislings like the strange sodomy-promoting General Milley would be hung.”
Gosar’s comments came following a social media post last week by Trump referencing Milley’s potential “execution” for allegedly conducting unauthorized communications with the Chinese government and his mishandling of America’s 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Ret. Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling condemned Gosar’s comments on CNN as “disgusting” and showing “how deeply disturbed both of these individuals are.”
The two attacks follow a recent Atlantic profile on Milley titled “The Patriot,” which describe his efforts to challenge then-President Trump.
“Milley has told friends that he expects that if Trump returns to the White House, the newly elected president will come after him. ‘He’ll start throwing people in jail, and I’d be on the top of the list,’ he has said,” wrote journalist Jeffrey Goldberg in the Atlantic.
Milley, who is currently the highest-ranking U.S. military officer, is set to step down formally from his post later this week after a long military career, which included a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
