In a Truth Social post, Trump criticized Democrats' alleged enthusiasm about the timing, writing "Democrats are all 'giddy' about our magnificent American Flag potentially being at 'half mast' during my Inauguration. They think it's so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don't love our Country."  Gage Skidmore / Wikimedia

The situation stems from a 1954 Eisenhower proclamation mandating a 30-day mourning period following a president's death. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has confirmed there are no plans to modify this protocol before Inauguration Day.  White House photographer / Wikimedia

Despite their historically contentious relationship - with Carter criticizing Trump's presidency and Trump calling Carter the second-worst president after Biden - Trump has confirmed his planned attendance at Carter's funeral.  Robert Deutsch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images
