Trump rips America’s ‘liberal Jews’ in risky Rosh Hashanah post
By Jake Beardslee · September 19, 2023
In brief…
- Donald Trump posted a list of his pro-Israel accomplishments on Truth Social accompanied by a caption criticizing "liberal Jews" for "voting to destroy America and Israel."
- The post rejected accusations that Trump is antisemitic, laying out actions taken by his administration to help Jewish people and Israel.
- Trump has faced backlash before for accusing America's liberal Jews of "disloyalty" and denying connections to antisemites after hosting known Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes at Mar-a-Lago.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, on Monday to share a list of his accomplishments regarding Israel during his time in office. However, the post was accompanied by controversial language targeting “liberal Jews.”
Above a list of his administration’s actions — such as recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights and moving the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem — Trump included a caption that read: “Just a quick reminder for liberal Jews who voted to destroy America and Israel because you believed false narratives! Let’s hope you learned from your mistake and make better choices moving forward.”
Trump’s post rejected accusations that he is antisemitic, sarcastically writing that he is “clearly one of the greatest antisemites of our time” given his pro-Israel policies as President. He added, “No other president had the balls to” relocate the embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
This is not the first time Trump has faced backlash for targeting American Jews. He has previously accused Jews of “disloyalty” for not being more supportive of him and his policies regarding Israel.
Trump has also denied connections to antisemitism after hosting known Holocaust denier and white nationalist Nick Fuentes at Mar-a-Lago last month.
The post generated significant controversy and uproar, with its rough language criticizing “liberal Jews” just days before the Jewish new year of Rosh Hashanah.
