A Surprising Moment on The View

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a frequent target of liberal criticism, received rare commendation from the hosts of ABC’s "The View" on Thursday. The panel praised the Georgia congresswoman for supporting an extension of Obamacare subsidies amid the ongoing government shutdown.  Library of Congress Life / Wikimedia

Whoopi Goldberg Calls Marjorie Taylor Greene a “Surprising Voice of Reason”

Whoopi Goldberg called Greene “a very surprising voice of reason,” noting that the lawmaker appeared to be responding directly to the needs of her district. “She seems to be the only one responding to her constituents, because her constituents are saying, ‘Excuse me, we are being affected by what’s happening here,’” Goldberg said.  Josh Morgan / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Recognition From the Left

Goldberg went on to highlight that Greene’s district “is not a rich district. She’s in a poor district,” adding that residents were pressuring her to secure relief. Fellow host Joy Behar echoed the sentiment, pointing out that Greene “also has a couple of kids who need – the insurance premiums are going up, so it’s very personal to her. You know, I’ll take it.”  Library of Congress Life / Wikimedia

Alyssa Farah Griffin Jokes It’s “a Dark Day” When Greene Is the Voice of Reason

Alyssa Farah Griffin added a wry observation: “It’s a dark day when Marjorie Taylor Greene is the voice of reason. But you know what they say about a blind squirrel, so I completely agree with her.”  U.S. Department of Defense / Wikimedia

Greene's Position on Health Subsidies

A staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, Greene has broken with most Republicans by aligning with Democrats on one of the main sticking points in the shutdown: continuing enhanced tax credits for Affordable Care Act coverage.  The White House / Wikimedia

Greene Says Obamacare Tax Credit Expiration Would Double Premiums for Her Family and District

In a post on X earlier this week, she wrote that while she is “not a fan” of Obamacare, she was moved by the potential impact on her family and constituents. “When the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district,” she said.  John Blackie/jblackie@pnj.com / USA TODAY NETWORK

Praise Extends Beyond The View

Greene’s stance also drew positive attention from CNN, where she appeared on "The Situation Room" to discuss her push for the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Host Wolf Blitzer praised her as “a courageous politician” and “loving mother,” thanking her for joining the program.  Jasen Vinlove-Imagn Images

Greene Addresses Personal Risks

Greene told CNN that her advocacy has led to a surge in threats. “I have received a tremendous amount of death threats,” she said, adding that “when you speak about certain issues,” those threats increase. “When I say I am seriously concerned for my life and I say if something ever happens to me — I really mean it,” she continued.  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America, CC BY-SA 2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0, via Wikimedia Commons
