The Georgia congresswoman took to social media platform X in the aftermath of the catastrophic incident, calling for a "serious investigation" while raising doubts about whether it was "an intentional attack or an accident."  @mtgreenee/X

Simon, whose gritty crime drama was set in Baltimore, did not mince words in his response to Greene's insinuation.  @AoDespair/X

"Are you intentional or just an accident? You complete submoronic pratfall of a human being," he wrote, labeling the congresswoman as "submoronic."  @AoDespair/X

The veteran writer sought to clarify that the bridge collapse resulted from issues related to "port operation" and "bridge maintenance," which fall under state jurisdiction, rather than being linked to Baltimore's city governance.  David Adams/Wikimedia

"Moron, port facilities and operations, interstate bridge maintenance etc. have nothing whatsoever to do with Baltimore's governance but are all state functions," Simon asserted.  @AoDespair/X

The fiery exchange unfolded after a harrowing incident on Tuesday in which a cargo ship struck a support column of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing a portion of the structure to give way.  David Adams/Wikimedia

Several vehicles plunged into the water below, and a number of construction workers who were conducting repairs on the bridge remain missing amid ongoing search efforts.  FBI Baltimore Field Office/Wikimedia

Regarding the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge caused by a cargo ship collision overnight, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg said, "There is no question that this will be a major and protracted impact to supply chains."  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America/Wikimedia

Law enforcement authorities have firmly stated that there is no evidence suggesting the collision was intentional, NPR reported.  David Adams/Wikimedia

They are treating the matter as an accident resulting from the ship's navigation error.  David Adams/Wikimedia
