Schumer and Jeffries Tell White House: Let’s End This GOP Shutdown
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) issued a joint letter to the White House on Wednesday demanding bipartisan talks. “We write to demand a bipartisan meeting of legislative leaders to end the GOP shutdown of the federal government and decisively address the Republican healthcare crisis,” the letter stated. The pair added, “Democrats stand ready to meet with you face to face, anytime and anyplace.”The letter concluded with a simple note: “Thank you for your attention to this matter.” Daniel Torok / Wikimedia
Shutdown Standoff Deepens

Political Fallout for the GOP
According to reports, Trump told Senate Republicans during a White House meeting that he fears the shutdown contributed to GOP losses in Virginia, New Jersey, New York, and Georgia. The president’s concern reflects growing unease within the party after Tuesday’s poor showing at the polls. The White House / Wikimedia
