‘He’s Turned on Crooked Joe’: Trump Fires Back at Clooney’s Call for Biden to Exit 2024 Race

By Jake Beardslee · July 11, 2024

Former President Donald Trump has launched a verbal attack on actor George Clooney following the actor's op-ed urging President Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.

Trump took to Truth Social to criticize Clooney, questioning his acting credentials and political judgement. He stated, "So now fake movie actor George Clooney, who never came close to making a great movie, is getting into the act. He's turned on Crooked Joe like the rats they both are. What does Clooney know about anything?"  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America / Wikimedia

The former president further advised, "Clooney should get out of politics and go back to television. Movies never really worked for him!!!"  @realDonaldTrump / Truth Social

Clooney, a prominent Democrat and significant fundraiser for Biden, expressed his concerns in a New York Times op-ed. Clooney wrote, "I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as president. I consider him a friend and I believe in him. Believe in his character. Believe in his morals. In the last four years, he's won many of the battles he's faced."  THOMAS BENDER/HERALD-TRIBUNE / USA TODAY NETWORK

However, Clooney added, "But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can. It's devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe "big F-ing deal" Biden of 2010. He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate."  Max Correa / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

Trump rebutted Clooney's characterization of Biden, accusing the current President of weaponizing law enforcement against political opponents, causing inflation, and implementing problematic border policies. He asserted, "Crooked Joe Biden didn't save our Democracy, he brought our Democracy to its knees."  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America / Wikimedia

Clooney's comments come amid growing concerns within the Democratic party about Biden's ability to defeat Trump in November and serve another term, particularly following a recent debate performance that some viewed as lackluster.  Owen Ziliak/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

The White House and Biden's allies maintain that the President has no intention of withdrawing from the race. Meanwhile, other celebrities, including actor Michael Douglas, have echoed Clooney's concerns about Biden's campaign.  Max Correa / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK
