Knicks Fans Threw Objects at Victor Wembanyama Outside His Hotel After Game 4

By Curtis Jones · June 12, 2026

The comeback was historic. What happened after it was not the kind of history New York wanted.

After the Knicks erased a 29-point deficit to beat San Antonio 107-106 in Game 4 — the largest comeback in NBA Finals history — fans were captured on video throwing objects at Victor Wembanyama and Spurs personnel outside the team hotel. NYPD reported 15 arrests, 41 summonses, and 10 officers injured in the aftermath of the game across Midtown Manhattan.

Wembanyama, who had 31 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks in a losing effort, was walking from the team bus to the hotel entrance when objects were thrown in his direction. Security personnel shielded him. No injuries to players were reported. The NBA issued a statement condemning the behavior.

“Violence and harassment directed at players, coaches, and staff will not be tolerated. We are working with NYPD and arena security to identify those responsible.”

The 10 injured officers sustained minor injuries during crowd control operations in the blocks surrounding Madison Square Garden. NYPD deployed additional units after the game ended, anticipating large crowds given the emotional nature of the comeback. The 15 arrests included charges of disorderly conduct, assault on a police officer, and criminal mischief.

The scene outside the hotel risks overshadowing one of the greatest games in NBA playoff history — and risks consequences for the Knicks. The NBA has historically responded to fan-on-player incidents with enhanced security requirements, fines for the home organization, and in extreme cases restrictions on attendance. Whether Tuesday night’s incidents trigger any organizational consequence for the Knicks remains to be seen.

Game 5 is Saturday in San Antonio. The Knicks lead 3-1 and are one win from their first championship since 1973. The series that has been defined by a generational comeback is now also defined by what happened on the sidewalk after it.
