Lauren Boebert ‘Melted Down’ in Debate, Says Democratic Rival

By Jake Beardslee · September 4, 2024

Democratic candidate Trisha Calvarese has accused Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) of losing composure during their recent debate.

Calvarese shared video clips from the Tuesday event on social media, highlighting Boebert's responses to questions about her voting record on veterans' benefits and Medicare drug price negotiations.  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America / Wikimedia

"Lauren Boebert melted down on the debate stage today," Calvarese stated on X, formerly Twitter.  @trisha4colorado / X

"Whether it was floundering to try to defend her disgraceful record on Veterans or having no explanation as to why she missed crucial house votes, she was held accountable for her extremism," Calvarese continued.  @trisha4colorado / X

A particularly heated moment occurred when Calvarese criticized Boebert's opposition to a bill supporting veterans exposed to toxic burn pits.  Curtis Means/Pool via USA TODAY

Calvarese remarked, "I think if you're going to be America first, you can't put veterans last."  @trisha4colorado / X

Boebert, who narrowly won reelection in 2022, is now running in Colorado's 4th Congressional District after switching from her previous district.  Jack Gruber, Jack Gruber / USA TODAY NETWORK

Despite the more conservative nature of her new district, Boebert faces allegations of being a carpetbagger and criticism for her past controversial behavior at a "Beetlejuice" musical performance.  Jack Gruber-USA TODAY
