Cheney’s remarks came after Trump criticized President Joe Biden for awarding the Presidential Citizens Medal to Cheney and Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) for their roles in the House committee investigating the Capitol attack.

“Liz Cheney, Cryin’ Adam Kinzinger, Bennie Thompson, and the rest of these dishonest Thugs have gotten away with horrible things under the pretense of January 6th,” he wrote in a post on Truth Social.

Trump’s posts included additional claims, such as accusing former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) of having “refused to accept the help which was offered for security” on January 6,
a statement that has been debunked
. Trump also criticized committee members, describing them as dishonest and suggesting they had caused harm under the guise of investigating the attack.

Cheney also reminded Trump of the events surrounding the Capitol attack. “Remember how you sent a mob to our Capitol and then watched the violence on television and refused for hours to instruct the mob to leave? Remember how your former Vice President prevented you from overturning our Republic? We remember,” she wrote.

Last month Trump used his Truth Social platform to allege that Cheney committed “egregious and unthinkable acts of crime.” “The statement came in the wake of Republican critiques, which labeled the committee’s performance as a ‘failure’ in an interim report.”
In a sharp rebuttal, the ex-congresswoman, Cheney dismissed the GOP-backed report, claiming it “disregards the truth,” and characterized Trump as a “cruel and vindictive man."
