By Jake Beardslee · August 23, 2024

The conclusion of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago has left former President Donald Trump visibly rattled, according to the panel on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."  Harrison Jones - THE USA TODAY NETWORK PA / USA TODAY NETWORK

Following Vice President Kamala Harris' well-received acceptance speech on Thursday night, Trump made hurried phone calls to conservative media outlets Fox News and Newsmax.  Jasper Colt / USA TODAY NETWORK

“A horrible person to run this country,” Trump told Fox News following Harris' DNC speech. “We won’t have a country if she gets elected.”  Owen Ziliak/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

Trump's media blitz didn't end there, however. Shortly after the Fox News incident, he called into Newsmax. During this conversation, he made an unusual proposal, extending an invitation to the show's hosts to accompany him on a trip to Venezuela's capital city.  Owen Ziliak/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

His appearance on Fox News was particularly noteworthy, as technical difficulties seemingly caused by Trump himself led to an early end to the call.  Owen Ziliak/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

Former Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) shared her thoughts on the convention's impact: "Should I confess now that the thing I enjoyed the most about this convention, that it was so good at all the stuff that bugs Donald Trump," she said with a laugh.  U.S. Senate Photographic Studio-John Klemmer / Wikimedia

"The production values were off the charts, everything looked great, the timing was seamless, there was no big drama anywhere, there were no tensions," she said.  Mike De Sisti-USA TODAY

McCaskill added, "We had more stars than he had. We had better ratings than he had; all the stuff that he thinks are important, they did really well this week. I confess that kind of gives me a grin."  United States Senate / Wikimedia

Co-host Willie Geist pointed out Trump's supposed desperation, saying, "Well he desperately, after Vice President Harris' speech, was desperately calling into TV networks, sometimes appeared to be sitting on some of the keys of his phone while he spoke."  Paris789 / Wikimedia

Geist noted that Trump's call to Fox News was cut short, after which he turned to Newsmax.  Adam Vander Kooy/Special to The Daily / USA TODAY NETWORK
