By Jake Beardslee · July 28, 2024

In a recent appearance on "Fox News Sunday," Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg shifted attention from concerns about Vice President Kamala Harris to former President Donald Trump's age and mental acuity. As the presidential race heats up, Buttigieg suggested that voters are now more concerned about Trump's fitness for office, given the significant age gap between him and his opponent.  Cody Scanlan/Holland Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

When pressed about criticism of Harris's silence regarding President Biden's age and mental wellness before his campaign exit, Buttigieg countered, "I'm pretty sure voters are worried about the age and acuity of President Trump compared to Kamala Harris, who represents being a generation younger."  Christine Tannous/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

Buttigieg added, "And how could anybody not watch the stuff he's saying, the rambling on the trail, and not be just a little bit concerned?"  Robert Scheer/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

He contrasted the Democrats' approach with what he perceives as the Republican Party's unwavering support for Trump, stating, "We've also seen the fact that [Biden is] 10 years older than he was 10 years ago, but unlike Republicans, who in Trump's personality cult take a look at Donald Trump and say he's perfectly fine."  Reid Glenn / USA TODAY NETWORK
