The highlight of Biden's comedic speech was his quip about Boebert's theater scandal last year. "If Congress were theater, they would have thrown out Lauren Boebert a long time ago," the president remarked, drawing applause from the crowd of journalists, politicians and celebrities.  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America/Wikimedia

In September 2023, Boebert made headlines after being caught on video behaving inappropriately during a screening of Beetlejuice, ultimately being asked to leave the theater.  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America/Wikimedia

He took several jabs at former President Trump, joking "Age is an issue. I'm a grown man, running against a 6-year-old." He added, "Age is the only thing we have in common. My vice president actually endorses me," a reference to Trump's tense relationship with Mike Pence.  The White House/Wikimedia

The president further poked fun at Trump over recent speech gaffes and legal troubles. Trump responded on Truth Social, writing "White House Correspondents' Dinner was really bad. Colin Jost BOMBED, and Crooked Joe was an absolute disaster! Doesn't get much worse than this!"  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America/Wikimedia

Republican Governor Chris Sununu offered perspective on the challenges of political comedy: "Any time you're a politician, you get even a slight laugh, that's a win," according to The Guardian.  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America/Wikimedia
