Gen Z’s Approval Rating of Trump Surges
By Jake Beardslee · March 4, 2025

Gen Z’s Support for Trump is Growing
President Donald Trump has experienced a notable increase in approval among younger voters, particularly those aged 18-29, according to a recent AtlasIntel poll. This shift marks a significant improvement from previous surveys, which indicated waning support for the president within this demographic.A national AtlasIntel survey conducted between February 24 and February 27, with 2,849 U.S. adults participating, found that Trump's overall approval rating remains nearly evenly split. The poll reported 50.3 percent approval versus 49.7 percent disapproval, with a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points. Gage Skidmore / Wikimedia

Young Voters Show a Shift in Favor of Trump
Among 364 respondents aged 18-29, Trump's approval rating stood at 52.7 percent, while 47.3 percent disapproved, yielding a net positive rating of 5.4 percentage points within the Gen Z demographic. This marks a substantial turnaround from an earlier AtlasIntel poll in January, where Trump faced a net disapproval rating of 17.4 percentage points among the same age group. In that survey, 58.7 percent of young voters disapproved of his performance, compared to 41.3 percent who approved. The White House / Wikimedia
Trump Still Faces Pushback from Key Demographics
Trump’s increased approval rating among Gen Z follows his stronger-than-expected performance in the 2024 election. According to AP VoteCast data from over 120,000 voters, Trump secured 47 percent of the vote among the 18-29 age group, an increase from 36 percent in 2020. His opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, won 51 percent of the Gen Z vote. While younger voters have traditionally favored Democratic candidates, their turnout remains lower compared to older demographics.Despite his gains with younger voters, Trump continues to face high disapproval ratings among other groups. The latest AtlasIntel survey found that 77.2 percent of respondents aged 30-44 disapproved of his presidency, along with 73 percent of Black adults. What Experts Say About Trump’s Rising Youth Support
Polling analysts and political experts have weighed in on the implications of Trump’s rising approval among younger voters. AtlasIntel shared on X (formerly Twitter) that its latest survey "finds the American public split in half but steady support for Trump, with almost no change since January." The @earlyvotedata X account commented, "Trump above water [overall] according to Atlas. Continues to be in a good position. Major impacts to this in the future will be Russia/Ukraine, tariffs, and the overall economy."David B. Cohen, a political science professor at the University of Akron, told Newsweek after the 2024 election: "Young voters compose a crucial part of the Democratic base, and if that is eroding, where do they make up for that? Going forward, Democrats will have to figure out how to bring young voters back to the fold—particularly young men—if they want to be competitive nationally." Yamu_Jay / Pixabay
