Marjorie Taylor Greene Accuses VP Harris of Concealing Biden’s ‘Cognitive Impairment’

By Jake Beardslee · July 12, 2024

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, the outspoken Republican from Georgia, has reignited debate over President Joe Biden's mental fitness with a recent post on X (formerly Twitter). Greene questioned Vice President Kamala Harris's apparent silence on what she termed Biden's "cognitive impairment," following a series of high-profile verbal missteps by the President.

Greene's comments come in the aftermath of Biden's widely criticized debate performance against former President Donald Trump and his recent appearance at the NATO summit, where he made several verbal gaffes. These incidents have fueled ongoing discussions about the 81-year-old President's mental acuity and his capacity to lead the nation.  Josh Morgan-USA TODAY

Greene's post read: "Of all the people that work close to Joe Biden, as VP, Kamala Harris is the closest and she never told the American people how bad Joe Biden is cognitively impaired. She is perhaps the biggest of all liars. How dare she keep this a secret and lie to America like this?!"  @RepMTG / X

Adding to the mounting pressure on the Biden administration, several prominent Democratic leaders and donors have recently come forward expressing concerns about the President's age and suggesting he consider stepping down. This unprecedented move within party ranks signals growing unease about Biden's potential vulnerability in the upcoming election.  The White House / Wikimedia

In one notable incident, Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as "President Putin" during a summit address. Realizing his error, he quickly corrected himself, stating, "Going to beat President Putin, President Zelenskiy. I'm so focused on beating Putin."  The White House / Wikimedia

Later, during a news conference, Biden confused his vice president, Kamala Harris, with his political rival, Donald Trump. When discussing Harris's qualifications, he stated, "Look, I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president if she was not qualified to be president. So start there."  THOMAS BENDER/HERALD-TRIBUNE / USA TODAY NETWORK

The president also struggled to find the correct term for "chiefs of staff" when referring to top military leaders, initially calling them "commander in chief," his own title as president.  Number 10 / Wikimedia

These verbal missteps come at a time when both Biden and Trump, who is 78, face scrutiny over their age and fitness for office. While Biden's gaffes have drawn attention, it's worth noting that Trump has also faced criticism for making false claims during debates and for rambling speeches on the campaign trail.  Jack Gruber, Jack Gruber / USA TODAY NETWORK

Greene's provocative statement drew mixed reactions from X users. Some supporters echoed the Georgia congresswoman's sentiments, with one user replying, "impeach Harris." Others defended the administration, pointing out perceived inaccuracies in Greene's understanding of governmental roles.  Jovanny Hernandez / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK / USA TODAY NETWORK

One user responded, "Actually, the person to work closest with the President is the chief of staff. How long do you have to be in Congress before you have any idea how government works?"  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America / Wikimedia

While the White House has consistently defended the President's capabilities, these latest developments underscore the increasing scrutiny Biden faces as he navigates his re-election bid. The situation presents a delicate balancing act for the Democratic Party as it grapples with questions of leadership and electability in a highly charged political landscape.  首相官邸ホームページ / Wikimedia
