Marjorie Taylor Greene: ‘I am sick and tired of the stupid people in Washington’

By Jake Beardslee · December 19, 2023

In brief…

  • Marjorie Taylor Greene gave a speech attacking "stupid people in Washington."
  • She specified she was calling out legislators from both parties, including Republicans she works with.
  • This follows past criticism of GOP inaction from Greene and a heated clash with Lauren Boebert.
  • Greene said last month she and Republican voters feel similarly disappointed with the party.

Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene vented her frustration with her fellow legislators during a speech at a Turning Point USA event, declaring she is “sick and tired of the stupid people in Washington.” Speaking at the conservative group Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest event in Arizona, Greene lamented that “I work with many of them” stupid lawmakers who make “horrible decisions” causing financial hardship for Americans.

As Greene put it, “The rich get richer and the poor get poorer, and that’s because we have stupid people in Washington, D.C., and I can say that for a fact because I work with many of them.” She clarified she was not exclusively attacking Democrats, saying “I’m not just talking about Democrats.”

This outraged criticism of the political establishment echoes Greene’s past remarks. Last month in an interview with CNN, Greene complained “Republican voters across the country are sick and tired of Republicans because they never do anything to hold this government accountable.” She agreed with this sentiment, stating “I feel the same way, and I’m a Republican member of Congress.”

Her Arizona speech follows a tense House floor confrontation earlier this month with fellow Republican Lauren Boebert. As intra-party tensions rise, Greene shows no hesitation to call out colleagues, stating “I feel like many of the American people that think that Republicans in Congress completely fail them.”
