Marjorie Taylor Greene Reportedly Weighs 2026 Senate Bid, But Polls Show Steep Climb Against Ossoff

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is reportedly mulling a run for the U.S. Senate in Georgia, aiming to unseat incumbent Democrat Sen. Jon Ossoff in the 2026 midterm elections. However, early polling from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) suggests that such a campaign could be a steep uphill battle for the controversial lawmaker.  Megan Smith-USA TODAY

Greene Polls Lowest Among GOP Contenders

According to the AJC poll, Greene fared the worst among four potential Republican challengers, trailing Ossoff by a wide margin.  Mike Desisti-USA TODAY

Ossoff Holds Wide Lead Over Greene

“Ossoff’s strongest advantage comes against Greene, the polarizing Trump ally and ultraconservative congresswoman from northwest Georgia. In that hypothetical matchup, Ossoff leads 54-37, thanks to support from 60% of independents and nearly 10% of Trump voters,” AJC reported.  Jack Gruber / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Kemp Emerges as GOP’s Strongest Challenger

In contrast, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R), who enjoys a 60% approval rating, is polling neck-and-neck with Ossoff.  Richard Burkhart/Savannah Morning News / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Kemp’s Broad Appeal Lifts Approval Rating

The AJC noted, “Kemp’s approval rating is bolstered by strong support from independents and even a third of Democrats. That puts him nearly 20 points ahead of President Donald Trump and reinforces recent AJC polls showing the Republican is one of the most well-liked figures in Georgia politics.”  Katie Goodale / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

Raffensperger, King Trail in Polls

Other potential GOP candidates fared moderately. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger trails Ossoff by nine points in the poll (48-39), while Insurance Commissioner John King comes in behind Ossoff at 51-38.  Mikhail Nilov / Pexels

Greene’s Viability Questioned in Statewide Race

While Kemp has remained noncommittal about a Senate bid—which could serve as a springboard to a 2028 presidential run—Greene’s performance in the poll reflects the challenges she would face in a statewide race, especially with moderate and independent voters.  Josh Morgan / USA TODAY NETWORK
