San Antonio Park Cop Arrested for Assaulting the Woman He Was With

By Erica Coleman · May 3, 2026

A San Antonio Park Police officer is facing criminal charges after Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies say he assaulted a woman during an argument — an arrest that makes him the fourth San Antonio Police Department officer taken into custody in 2026.

Rolando Lopez Jr., 36, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of assault causing bodily injury on a family member, according to Bexar County records. He has been employed by San Antonio Park Police for eight years.

Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a domestic violence call around 6 p.m. Tuesday near the 47000 block of Sahara Valleys. The woman told deputies that Lopez assaulted her during an argument at a traffic light. Deputies documented a visible injury on her face and lip.

Lopez was placed on administrative duty following his arrest. San Antonio Park Police, a separate but affiliated law enforcement entity that operates under the City of San Antonio, is conducting its own internal investigation into the incident.

The charge he faces — assault causing bodily injury on a family member — is a Class A misdemeanor in Texas, which carries a potential sentence of up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000 for a first offense. If a prior conviction for the same offense exists, the charge can be elevated.

KSAT Investigates, which tracks officer arrests in the San Antonio area, notes that Lopez is the fourth officer within the broader SAPD structure arrested so far in 2026. The frequency of officer arrests has drawn scrutiny from local accountability advocates who argue the department’s internal processes for screening and oversight are insufficient to catch misconduct before it escalates.

San Antonio Park Police oversees law enforcement at the city’s parks, greenways, and public recreation facilities. Officers carry full law enforcement authority within their jurisdiction, including the power to make arrests, issue citations, and respond to public safety calls.

Lopez’s next court appearance has not been publicly announced. The internal investigation by San Antonio Park Police is ongoing.
