Scaramucci: Trump’s VP Pick ‘Hurting’ Campaign

By Jake Beardslee · July 26, 2024

In a recent CNN interview with CNN's Kaitlan Collins, Anthony Scaramucci, who briefly served as White House communications director under Donald Trump, expressed strong criticism of Senator JD Vance, Trump's recently announced vice-presidential running mate.  David Rodriguez Munoz / USA TODAY NETWORK

Scaramucci argued that Vance is already negatively impacting Trump's campaign, stating, "JD, I think, stands for 'Just Dull,' so, he is not doing well on the stump for Donald Trump. He's hurting him. The memes on social media are killing him."  David Rodriguez Munoz / USA TODAY NETWORK

He added, "The net negatives are terrible for the vice president."  Mark Hoffman, Mark Hoffman / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Ohio senator has faced backlash over resurfaced comments criticizing "childless" Democrats and suggesting that individuals without children should have less influence in democracy. This controversy has led some House Republicans to question Vance's suitability as Trump's running mate.  Mark Hoffman / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

Scaramucci contended that a vice-presidential candidate should "get out of the way" to allow Trump to take center stage. He suggested that former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley would have been a superior choice.  Jasper Colt-USA TODAY

Scaramucci predicted, "When he loses the election and they do the post obituary of the election and they're in the morgue looking at the body of the lost election, they'll say 'wow that was a terrible mistake not to go with Nikki Haley.'"  Mark Hoffman-USA TODAY

The former aide speculated that Trump might be displeased with the discussions surrounding Vance and even suggested the possibility of replacing him before November. Scaramucci remarked, "It's just a question of how many 'Scaramucci's' JD is going to last. We've got the shot clock on right now," referencing his own brief tenure in the Trump administration.  Cara Owsley/The Enquirer / USA TODAY NETWORK
