In brief…
- Aaron Rodgers expressed his desire to return to the field this season despite a recent Achilles injury during an appearance on the ManningCast with Peyton and Eli Manning.
- Rodgers cited setting a goal as crucial for his recovery and mentioned the need to reach a point where he can protect himself on the field.
- The New York Jets quarterback had surgery on September 13 and made a surprise return to the field last week, emphasizing how important it was for him to feel connected to the team while on the injured reserve list.
Aaron Rodgers has a goal in mind for when he hopes to return to the field for the following his opening-game Achilles tear, and it’s got to be music to New York Jets fans’ ears.
Joining the ManningCast with Peyton and Eli Manning during Monday night’s Minnesota Vikings victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Rodgers said that he has his sights set on returning to the field this season.
“Listen, I’d love to come back this season,” Rodgers said. “I don’t know if (Eli) missed a damn game. You know, you had an incredible ability to stay healthy. Peyton, I think you only had the one season where you had your neck thing. But I’ve had a couple injuries over the years.
“I think, for me, you always have to set a goal. Otherwise, you’ll go kind of crazy. And so the goal is to definitely come back. There’s a lot of factors that go into that. I got to get to a point where I can protect myself and do what I do.”
Rodgers had surgery on Sept. 13 and less than five weeks later, the two-time MVP was throwing on the field before the Jets’ Week 6 win over the Eagles.
“To me, throwing up here was just a way to feel normal,” Rodgers said. “You know, when you’re away from the team and you’re separated being on the injured reserve list, anything you can do to make it feel like you’re kind of a part of it, whether that’s Zooming into a meeting or conversation before the game or knowing little details, you know, you went against this coordinator and you remember some of the things you liked.
“For me, it was just kind of getting back out there and messing around in the pregame warm-ups and to be able to walk out there without crutches and to throw a ball around a little bit. So that gave me a jolt, and you know, just having the mindset with my rehab every day to hopefully come back at some point (this season).”
