In brief…
- Adele plans to start drinking again now that her Vegas shows are ending.
- She recently quit drinking due to borderline alcoholism in her 20s.
- Adele bought a fancy red wine to celebrate her break, but is currently sick.
- She avoids red wine when singing as it hurts her voice.
- Adele has previously talked about drinking 4 bottles of wine before lunch.
Adele has revealed plans to resume drinking alcohol now that her Las Vegas concert residency is winding down, having revealed in October she had recently stopped drinking.
During a recent performance at Caesars Palace’s The Colosseum in Las Vegas, the British singer told fans she stopped drinking about three and a half months ago, calling it “boring” but admitting she “misses it so much.” Adele described herself as “literally borderline alcoholic for quite a lot of my twenties.”
She also cut out caffeine at the time.
However, with her residency nearing its end, Adele shared she purchased a fancy bottle of Châteauneuf-du-Pape red wine to reward herself on her break from performing. But she noted feeling under the weather lately, meaning she won’t be indulging in the wine just yet.
Adele told the Vegas crowd she was “ready to start again” drinking because it’s her break period. But she said she avoids red wine while singing, as it negatively affects her voice.
“I’m a white wine girl,” she remarked, but noted she cuts it with sparkling water “because a glass of red wine tips me over the edge.”
The 35-year-old singer complained of having a sore throat and chest, saying, “I’ll have to save that [red wine] for Thanksgiving. I guess that’s what I’m going to do then.”
Earlier this year, Adele spoke candidly about her past drinking habits during a different Vegas show, admitting she once drank four bottles of wine before lunchtime.
“I remember when I came here in Covid-19, in lockdown, it was 11 am and I was definitely like four bottles of wine in – like we all were,” she told the crowd previously.
Adele’s brutally honest comments provide insight into her struggles with alcohol and her mindset as she gets ready to relax her sobriety. After cutting out liquor and caffeine completely for several months, the Grammy winner is eagerly anticipating drinking again despite past excess.
