Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and political firebrand, has once again stirred controversy in Washington by threatening to create a new political party if President Donald Trump’s sweeping domestic legislation—referred to as the “big, beautiful bill”—is passed.

“If this bill is signed into law, the America Party will be formed the next day,” Musk wrote Monday on his social media platform X, as the Senate advanced toward a final vote. He denounced the legislation as “insane” and claimed it lacked true representation for American citizens. “Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE,” he added.

Musk’s fresh salvo comes just weeks after his official role within the Trump administration ended in late May. Despite an apparent reconciliation between the two shortly afterward, Musk has reignited his opposition to the legislation, which critics say would dismantle support for renewable energy and inflate the national debt by trillions.

Over the weekend and into Monday, Musk intensified his rhetoric, directing scathing criticism at Republican lawmakers backing the bill. “Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!” he wrote. “And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”

Musk specifically targeted two conservative lawmakers—Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Andy Harris (R-MD)—for supporting the bill. “How can you call yourself the Freedom Caucus if you vote for a DEBT SLAVERY bill with the biggest debt ceiling increase in history?” he demanded.
