Greene's Latest Critique of Her Own Party
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) once again turned her ire toward fellow Republicans, accusing Georgia’s GOP leadership of adopting policies that mirror those of Democrats. In a Saturday post on X, Greene wrote that Georgia Republicans “never govern like they campaign” and that state policies make it feel “like we are governed by Democrats.” Gage Skidmore, CC BY-SA 2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Growing Rift Between Greene and the Republican Party
Though long considered one of former President Donald Trump’s staunchest allies, Greene has increasingly broken ranks with the GOP in recent months. She has openly criticized party leaders over issues ranging from women’s treatment in politics to foreign policy, declaring in an August Daily Mail interview that she was “really sick and tired” of how the party operates and unsure “if the Republican Party is leaving me, or if I’m kind of not relating to the Republican Party as much anymore.” Gage Skidmore, CC BY-SA 2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Focus on Georgia’s Leadership and Taxes
In her weekend post, Greene directed her frustration at her home state, writing: “The good ole boy Republicans have been in control of Georgia for over 20 years. While there are things I appreciate there are others that are unacceptable. It’s appalling our education is ranked 30 or above in the nation. And our taxes are insane. High taxes like we are governed by Democrats. Republicans never govern like they campaign.” Gage Skidmore, CC BY-SA 2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0, via Wikimedia Commons
Speculation Over a Third Party
Greene’s comments also came amid renewed calls from conservatives and public figures like Elon Musk for a third political party to challenge the two-party system. Musk floated the idea of forming “the America Party” in July after a poll on X found that 65.4% of respondents supported a new political alternative. Analysts See Signs of a Broader MAGA Split
Political scientist John Geer told Newsweek that “splits in the MAGA base are inevitable,” explaining that while movements like MAGA are united in pursuit of power, “cracks begin to emerge as differences arise over specific policies.” He said Greene’s remarks “reflect this inevitable fracturing.” Polina Zimmerman / Pexels
