Trump Speeds Up Agenda Amid Concerns About Midterms and Potential Impeachment

President Donald Trump is moving aggressively to push through his political agenda, with some insiders and longtime allies suggesting the pace is driven by fears that a Republican loss in the upcoming midterms could derail his efforts—and potentially lead to another impeachment.  The White House / Wikimedia

Insider: Trump Ignores Calls to Slow Down

According to a report from NBC News, one individual considered for a senior role in the administration described Trump as unsympathetic to calls for a more measured pace. “He [Trump] was not very sympathetic” to advisers who urged caution, the source told NBC, speaking anonymously.  dconvertini / Wikimedia

Pollster: Trump Fears Another Impeachment if GOP Loses Congress

John McLaughlin, a Republican pollster and longtime Trump confidant, confirmed the urgency. “Trump has hindsight from the first term that if he doesn’t get things done now, he won’t ever get them done,” McLaughlin said. He added that Trump “realizes, too, from his first term that if he doesn’t get things done and he loses the House and the Senate in the midterms, he’ll get impeached again.”  United States House of Representatives / Wikimedia

NBC: Fast Pace of Action Has Created Confusion Over Impact

Despite the administration's breakneck speed, NBC raised questions about whether Trump’s rapid-fire actions are yielding tangible results. The outlet noted that the chaos has led to “confusion over what Trump has done thus far and whether his actions have stuck.”  The White House / Wikimedia

McLaughlin: Trump Tackling Too Much, But Slowing Down Is Not in His Nature

McLaughlin acknowledged the scale of the challenge. “The challenge that Trump has is that he’s trying to solve so many important issues all at once, and a lot of them are very difficult. They’re hard, and they take time,” he said.

However, the possibility of Trump slowing down appears unlikely. “That’s not his personality,” McLaughlin explained. “That’s not his nature.”  The White House / Wikimedia

Consumer Confidence Falls Sharply Amid Political Uncertainty

Public concern is growing amid the frenzy. NBC cited data from the University of Michigan showing that consumer sentiment has dropped 11% from the previous month and 34% year-over-year. The share of Americans expecting higher unemployment is now at its highest point since the 2009 global financial crisis.  Mikhail Nilov / Pexels
