Trump claims he “aced” cognitive test, challenges aging Biden as 2024 polls shift

In brief…
- Trump defended mixing up Obama and Biden's names, claiming he was being sarcastic to imply others influence Biden's presidency
- Trump challenged Biden to take a cognitive test over controversial policies, arguing Biden seems unfit to serve due to "incompetence" rather than age
- DeSantis's presidential campaign team attacked Trump for apparent gaffes mixing up Obama and Biden’s names
Former President Donald Trump defended mixing up President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama’s names in recent comments, claiming he was being “sarcastic” to imply others have major influence over Biden’s administration.
In a Truth Social post Monday, Trump wrote, “Whenever I sarcastically insert the name Obama for Biden as an indication that others may actually be having a very big influence in running our Country, Ron DeSanctimonious and his failing campaign apparatus, together with the Democrat’s Radical Left ‘Disinformation Machine,’ go wild.”
Trump was referring to attacks by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s presidential campaign team over apparent gaffes confusing Biden and Obama. Earlier this month, the DeSantis campaign posted videos on social media of Trump’s remarks interchanging Biden and Obama’s names, questioning Trump’s cognitive abilities.
Trump claimed he “aced” a recent cognitive test from his physical exam, challenging Biden to take one over policies like open borders, a “woke” military, and men competing in women’s sports.
Criticism over Biden’s age and mental fitness has followed him since his 2020 campaign at 79 years old. Now 81, Biden would be 86 at the end of a second term if reelected. At 77, Trump is only a few years younger.
Trump has argued Biden seems unfit to serve not due to age but “gross incompetence.” Polling increasingly favors Trump over Biden in hypothetical 2024 matchups after previous surveys showed them neck-and-neck.
