HUD Secretary Highlights 500 Million Acres of Buildable Land Across the U.S.

There are approximately 500 million acres in our country, our beautiful United States, that could be utilized to build affordable housing,” Turner said during an interview on Fox News’ “Mornings with Maria.”  Kindel Media / Pexels

Utah and Nevada Selected as First Targets for Development

Turner continued, saying, “They’re all over the country – urban and rural places.” He noted that the initial focus will be on areas in Utah and Nevada, though other regions may also be considered.  Peggy_Marco / Pixabay

Joint Task Force Formed to Align Housing Goals with Environmental Concerns

The strategy involves a newly created joint task force between HUD and the Department of the Interior. According to a Wall Street Journal op-ed co-authored by Turner and Burgum, “Under this agreement, HUD will pinpoint where housing needs are most pressing and guide the process by working with state and local leaders who know their communities best. Interior will identify locations that can support homes while carefully considering environmental impact and land-use restrictions.”  Fry1989 / Wikimedia
