Warren Buffett, the 94-year-old chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, has announced the donation of roughly $6 billion in company shares to five philanthropic foundations, continuing a commitment he made nearly two decades ago to give away the bulk of his fortune.

According to a Saturday statement, approximately 9.43 million Class B shares will go to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust. An additional 2.92 million shares will be distributed among the Sherwood Foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, the NoVo Foundation, and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation—named for Buffett’s late wife.

Buffett, who co-founded the Giving Pledge in 2010 with Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates, emphasized the scale of his contributions. “The five foundations have received Berkshire B shares that had a value when received of about $60 billion, substantially more than my entire net worth in 2006,” he noted.

Earlier this year, Buffett announced plans to step down as CEO by the end of 2025, naming Greg Abel as his successor. Despite relinquishing his executive role, Buffett reiterated his intention not to sell his shares but to donate them over time. “I have no debts and my remaining A shares are worth about $145 billion, well over 99% of my net worth,” he said. “My will provides that about 99.5% of my estate is destined for philanthropic usage.”

Buffett’s current stake includes 198,117 Class A shares and 1,144 Class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway.
