Your Jeep May Be at Risk of Catching Fire While Parked in Your Garage
By Erica Coleman · June 10, 2026
The recall covers a part that can overheat while the vehicle is parked, turned off, and sitting in your driveway or garage. That detail alone is why this one matters.
The recall affects approximately 154,000 vehicles in the United States.
The specific hazard is what makes this recall different from most. A typical engine-related recall requires the vehicle to be running for the defect to present a risk. This one does not. The PTC heater can activate and overheat while the vehicle is off, which means the fire risk exists while the Jeep is parked in a garage, a carport, or a driveway. Stellantis said it is aware of “a small number” of fire reports related to the defect but has not disclosed the exact number.
How to check if your vehicle is affected:
Enter your VIN — the 17-character vehicle identification number found on your dashboard near the windshield, on your registration, or in your insurance documents — at the NHTSA recall lookup tool at nhtsa.gov/recalls. You can also call Stellantis customer care at 1-800-853-1403 and reference recall number 2CE.
What to do if your vehicle is recalled:
Stellantis will notify affected owners by mail beginning in late June, and dealers will replace the PTC heater at no cost. In the meantime, the company has not issued guidance to stop driving the vehicle — the fire risk is not limited to driving versus parked — but owners concerned about the interim risk should contact their dealer directly.
The vehicles covered are:
If you own one of these vehicles and park it in an attached garage, checking your VIN now rather than waiting for the mail notice is worth the two minutes.
