Comcast Lost a $117.5 Million Lawsuit. June 1 Is the Deadline You Need to Know.
By Mike Harper · May 15, 2026
In October 2023, hackers exploited a vulnerability in Comcast’s systems — a flaw known as CitrixBleed — and gained access to the personal information of more than 31 million Xfinity customers. Names, contact information, the last four digits of Social Security numbers, secret security question answers, and dates of birth were all compromised. Comcast notified customers months later. A class action lawsuit followed. And now there is a $117.5 million settlement fund.
The settlement covers everyone who had personal information compromised in the October 2023 breach. If you received a notification from Comcast about the incident, you are automatically included. If you were a Comcast customer at that time but did not receive a notification, you may still be covered — the breach affected systems that touched a substantial portion of the company’s subscriber base, and eligibility does not require having been individually notified.
What you can claim:
$50 cash payment, no documentation required. All class members who submit a claim form are entitled to a flat $50 payment without needing to prove any specific harm. This is the most straightforward option and requires only that you file a claim form at the settlement website.
Up to $10,000 in documented out-of-pocket losses. If you experienced financial harm directly connected to the breach — fraudulent charges on accounts, identity theft remediation costs, fees for credit monitoring or restoration services, or lost time spent addressing those issues — you can claim up to $10,000 with supporting documentation.
Three years of free identity monitoring. All class members are automatically enrolled in three years of identity protection and credit monitoring through the settlement, regardless of whether they submit a cash claim. This benefit requires no action on your part.
Key deadlines:
June 1, 2026 — opt-out and objection deadline. If you want to exclude yourself from the settlement and preserve the right to sue Comcast independently, you must submit a written opt-out request by this date. If you object to the settlement terms, written objections must also be submitted by June 1.
August 14, 2026 — claim filing deadline. To receive the $50 cash payment or the documented loss reimbursement, you must submit a claim form online at comcastbreachsettlement.com or by mail, postmarked by August 14.
July 7, 2026 — final approval hearing. A federal judge in Philadelphia will hold the final approval hearing on that date. Payments will not be distributed until after the court grants final approval and any appeals are resolved.
How to file:
Go to comcastbreachsettlement.com and complete the online claim form. You will need your enrollment code, which was included in the breach notification Comcast sent you. If you no longer have that notice, you can still file without it — the settlement administrator, Kroll, can verify your eligibility through Comcast’s records.
Questions: call 1-866-362-4086 or email info@ComcastBreachSettlement.com, Monday through Friday during business hours.
One important caution: this settlement has attracted scammers. The settlement administrator will never call you asking for bank account numbers, Social Security numbers, or any payment to receive your money. If you receive such a call or email, it is fraud. All legitimate communications will direct you to comcastbreachsettlement.com.
