Forbes Says Taylor Swift Is the Wealthiest Female Musician in History

By Erica Coleman · June 5, 2026

Forbes published its 2026 Iconoclast 50 list on Wednesday. Among the leaders in finance, business, technology, media, entertainment, and philanthropy it identified as “changing the game in real time,” one entry was straightforward in the way that $2 billion is straightforward.

Taylor Swift is the wealthiest female musician in history, with a net worth that Forbes now places at $2 billion. That is double the $1 billion she was worth when Forbes first declared her a billionaire in October 2023. It is up from $1.6 billion in October 2024. The growth trajectory is steep because the inputs are extraordinary.

The breakdown: approximately $800 million from royalties and touring, $600 million from her music catalog, and $110 million in real estate across Nashville, Los Angeles, New York, and Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Forbes notes that Swift is the first musician in history to reach billionaire status primarily through songs and performances, rather than through outside ventures like fashion lines, fragrance deals, or business investments. Jay-Z is richer, at approximately $3 billion — but a significant portion of his wealth comes from business ventures beyond music. Swift’s $2 billion is almost entirely earned by performing and by owning what she created.

The Eras Tour is the largest single driver. The sprawling stadium spectacle that traveled across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia generated $2.2 billion in revenue — the highest-grossing concert tour in the history of recorded performance. She used the earnings to buy back the masters of her first six albums for an estimated $360 million in May 2025, completing the reclamation project she began in 2020 when she re-recorded her catalog after losing ownership of the originals. The royalties from those masters now flow directly to her.

October 2025 brought “The Life of a Showgirl,” her most recent studio album. It sold more than 4 million copies in its first week — the largest debut in the history of recorded music. It is now the second album in her catalog after “The Tortured Poets Department” to cross the one million first-week sales mark.

She is worth more than Kim Kardashian, who Forbes estimates at $1.9 billion. She is worth more than Beyoncé, who Forbes places just below the $2 billion threshold. She is 36 years old.

Reports circulating this week indicate that her wedding to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is planned for next month — before the NFL preseason begins in late July. Swift and Kelce made their relationship public in 2023 at a Kansas City Chiefs game. Kelce proposed in late 2025. The timing of the wedding, if the reports are accurate, would place it as the most-covered celebrity event of the summer.

The Forbes Iconoclast 50 profile of Swift contains one line that summarizes the arc of the past six years.

“She used the cash to buy back her original masters for an estimated $360 million. By March 2026, her net worth doubled to $2 billion, making her the richest female musician in history.”
