Trump Abandons Marjorie Taylor Greene

By Jake Beardslee · November 15, 2025

A Break in a Once-Solid Alliance

President Donald Trump issued a blistering social media message Friday announcing he was “withdrawing his support and Endorsement” of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., marking one of the sharpest ruptures yet within the president’s MAGA coalition. Once among Trump’s closest allies, Greene has recently questioned his priorities — including criticizing him in an NBC News interview, published just hours before Trump’s post, for focusing too heavily on foreign policy instead of an “America First” agenda.  The White House / Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America / Wikimedia

Trump Accuses Greene of Political Opportunism

In his Truth Social post, Trump claimed the United States was the “HOTTEST” country in the world thanks to his leadership and dismissed Greene’s criticisms as politically motivated. “All I see ‘Wacky’ Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!” he wrote, adding that Greene was frustrated that he discouraged her from running for Senate or governor. She “didn’t have a chance (unless, of course, she had my Endorsement — which she wasn’t about to get!),” he added.  The White House / Wikimedia

Trump Claims Greene Is Bitter Over Access

Trump escalated the personal nature of the attack, writing, “She has told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls anymore, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can’t take a ranting Lunatic’s call every day.”  The White House / Wikimedia

Greene Fires Back With Accusations of Her Own

Greene responded on X, saying Trump had “attacked me and lied about me.” She suggested Trump’s anger stemmed from the resurfacing of the Jeffrey Epstein case — noting that the House will vote next week to force the Justice Department to release its Epstein files. “It’s astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level,” she wrote. She continued that “most Americans wish he would fight this hard to help the forgotten men and women of America who are fed up with foreign wars and foreign causes, are going broke trying to feed their families, and are losing hope of ever achieving the American dream.”  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America, CC BY-SA 2.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0, via Wikimedia Commons

Greene Points to Her Loyalty — and Her Limits

Greene also stressed her longstanding support for Trump, writing, “I have supported President Trump with too much of my precious time, too much of my own money, and fought harder for him even when almost all other Republicans turned their back and denounced him.” But she added, “I don’t worship or serve Donald Trump. I worship God, Jesus is my savior, and I serve my district GA14 and the American people.”  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America, CC BY-SA 2.0 , via Wikimedia Commons

Possibility of a Primary Challenge Emerges

By Friday night, Trump went a step further and indicated he may support a primary challenger in Greene’s district — an extraordinary threat to a lawmaker who once mirrored his positions closely. Greene has recently broken with Trump on foreign policy, the release of Epstein-related documents, and Obamacare subsidies tied to the now-ended government shutdown.  The White House / Wikimedia

Greene’s Political Trajectory

Greene, who has said Trump personally inspired her to run for office, was first elected in 2020 and easily held her seat last year with over 64% of the vote. Her criticism of the president marks a remarkable shift in a relationship that once defined her political identity.  Gage Skidmore from Surprise, AZ, United States of America, CC BY-SA 2.0 , via Wikimedia Commons
