The baseless rumor, which targets the Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio, originated from an unverified Facebook post.
Springfield Mayor Rob Rue has condemned the spread of these rumors, saying,
according to The Independent
: "As a human being, can you imagine being talked about like this? We're letting these rumours, this national rhetoric, come into our community and divide us."

Local law enforcement has confirmed that no reports of pet-related incidents have been filed.
Despite this, Trump and some of his supporters continue to propagate the unfounded claims.

Social media users have criticized Boebert's statements, with one commenter noting: "No one is eating them. But you are ignorant enough to keep spreading the lie when it's been debunked. At minimum, we expect the stupidity."
