By Jake Beardslee · November 13, 2024

Dick Van Dyke, the legendary 98-year-old actor known for his roles in classics like "Mary Poppins" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang," had a scathing reaction to Donald Trump's upcoming second term as president.  Gage Skidmore / Wikimedia

In a video posted by the Daily Mail, when asked by a paparazzo whether he believed Trump would "make America great again," Van Dyke retorted, "'Fortunately, I won't be around to experience the four years.'"  Gage Skidmore / Wikimedia

The actor, who turns 99 next month, was also skeptical when the cameraman asked if the "future looked bright" for the United States, simply responding, "I hope you're right!"  Gage Skidmore / Wikimedia

This reaction comes after Van Dyke made a rare social media appearance on Instagram the day before the election to publicly endorse Vice President Kamala Harris.  Richard Burkhart/ USA Today Network / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

In the video, the comedian recalled attending a Martin Luther King Jr. speech in 1964, during which he read a message written by "Twilight Zone" creator Rod Serling. Van Dyke proceeded to read a portion of that speech, in which he condemned hatred, prejudice, and other "diseases" of the soul.  @official_dick_van_dyke / Instagram
