Trump Says Netflix’s Warner Bid ‘Could Be a Problem’
By Jake Beardslee · December 21, 2025
President Donald Trump has raised concerns about Netflix’s proposed $72 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, warning that the deal could present antitrust issues due to the scale of the combined company.
Speaking about the proposed merger, Trump said the transaction “could be a problem” because it would create a media giant with an outsized share of the market. He indicated that market concentration would be a central issue in evaluating the deal and said he intends to be involved in the regulatory review process.
“I know the companies very well. I know what they’re doing. I have to see what percentage of the market they have,” Trump said.
The president emphasized that personal relationships would not factor into his assessment of the merger, adding, “None of them are particularly great friends of mine. I want to do what’s right.”
Trump also offered praise for Netflix and its leadership, even as he reiterated concerns about market dominance.
“Netflix is a great company. They’ve done a phenomenal job. Ted is a fantastic man. I have a lot of respect for him, but it’s a lot of market share, so we’ll have to see what happens,” Trump stated, referring to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos.
